Cheshvan began 16 October and is celebrated over two days. Cheshvan is often called Mar Chesvan or "Bitter Cheshvan" because it has no Jewish holidays. It is the beginning of the rainy season in Israel. Two tragic events occurred in Cheshvan. Kristalnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, in 1938 or Chesvan 5699 was the beginning of the Holocaust. Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated in 1995 or Cheshvan 5756.
